Matangi Bhumi Lestari: 25 Balinese Green Startups Officially Begin Their Journey

A new chapter for Bali’s sustainable ventures has begun. Bali Entrepreneur Collaborator (BEC), together with the Bali Provincial Office of Cooperatives and SMEs, has officially partnered with New Energy Nexus Indonesia to launch Matangi Bhumi Lestari – an incubation program designed to nurture 25 green startups across the island.
The program, part of New Energy Nexus Indonesia’s Matangi Bali Initiative and the Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition, aims to strengthen local entrepreneurs with mentoring, networks, and funding to create climate-positive solutions in sectors such as renewable energy, agritech, waste management, sustainable fashion, and more.

More Than Business Growth, A Call for Real Impact

For Mariana, Chair of Bali Entrepreneur Collaborator and Head of UPTD PLUT KUMKM, the mission is clear: Matangi Bhumi Lestari is not just about scaling businesses, but also about how business are creating tangible impact.

“Local entrepreneurs in Bali have tremendous potential to drive positive change. Through this program, we want them to grow not only in business but also in their contribution to sustainability,”

Echoing this, Diyanto Imam, Director of New Energy Nexus Indonesia, emphasized Bali’s role as a model for green entrepreneurship.

Incubation as a Catalyst for Green Innovators

Tri Arya Dhyana Kubontubuh, Head of the Provincial Office of Cooperatives and SMEs, highlighted the broader value of supporting green businesses:

“We need a generation of entrepreneurs who are not only profit-driven, but also care about environmental preservation. Incubators play a vital role as catalysts for green innovators who will answer the challenges of the future."

Designed as an intensive incubation journey, Matangi Bhumi Lestari provides expert mentorship, prototype development, and business training. Selected startups will also have the chance to secure seed funding to validate their ideas.

The Voices of Young Founders

For many of the 25 selected startups, the program is a platform to grow confidence and community.
Tegar, Founder and Operations & Supply Chain Lead of one of the participating startups, expressed his enthusiasm:

“This program is both a learning space and real support for our journey. The mentorship makes us more prepared to take the next step, and I can’t wait to go through the full program,”

Similarly, Ni Komang Rosiani, co-founder of Rotenbi, spoke about the significance of inclusive empowerment:

“As women entrepreneurs, we feel more confident with the support this program gives us. It not only lifts our spirit but also opens real opportunities for us to grow sustainably. I hope this inspires more women to step forward,”

A Showcase of Local Innovation

The program launch was marked not only by the MoU signing but also by a showcase of 11 green businesses and startups, including Balibell, Phalam, Soka Wangi, Bali Treesco, Billyane’s, Pesona Plastic Recycle Studio, Yeh Pasih, Leather, EconiQ, TSDC, Balisynwood, and MyAmbu – each demonstrating how creativity and entrepreneurship can align with sustainability.
As 25 young ventures begin their incubation journey, Matangi Bhumi Lestari is a reminder that solutions for Bali’s future can grow from its own soil.
Rooted in local wisdom yet open to innovation, these startups carry the potential to protect the island’s environment while strengthening its communities. What starts here in Bali could ripple outward, offering a model of how entrepreneurship, collaboration, and culture can walk together toward a sustainable tomorrow.
