Job Description Summary:
The Director of Global Impact is a senior leadership role within the Group Sustainability and Communications Division, responsible for designing, implementing, and managing sustainability programmes and projects that deliver measurable environmental and social outcomes. The role focuses on biodiversity and nature conservation, water stewardship, human rights and community economic empowerment, ensuring these initiatives align with the company’s broader sustainability goals, achieve compliance with local, national and international regulations, applicable industry standards and global best practices. Their efforts not only help the organisation meet its sustainability commitments but also mitigate risks, strengthen corporate resilience, and position the company as a leader in sustainable agribusiness practices.
The Director also leads the development of robust Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems to track and ensure the positive impact of sustainability programmes and interventions. Representing the company across global and regional sustainability platforms, the Director serves as a key advocate for its environmental and social commitments.
Job Description:
Strategic Leadership:
- Design and implement sustainability programmes focused on biodiversity conservation, water stewardship, human rights and community economic empowerment, ensuring alignment with global environmental and social standards.
- Develop and implement strategies that support sustainable resource management, including but not limited to innovative water stewardship initiatives, to minimise environmental impact and enhance ecosystem health.
- Create modular and scalable sustainability programs that can be adapted and implemented across multiple regions, ensuring consistency and impact while addressing local needs.
- Support the identification of partnerships and financing models that can support scaling of the company’s sustainability programmes.
Stakeholder and Partner Engagement:
- Build and maintain positive internal working relationships with business unit leaders to ensure they take ownership and accountability for implementation of sustainable practices and achievement of company-level goals.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with NGOs, governments, industry bodies, business partners, consultants and academic institutions to advance biodiversity, water stewardship, and community development objectives.
- Represent the company in sustainability forums, advocacy efforts, and events within and outside Indonesia, serving as a spokesperson for its commitments to environmental and social leadership.
Sustainability Governance:
- Lead the planning and execution of High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) assessments, Social Impact Assessments (SIA), and Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) to ensure compliance with national and international frameworks.
- Develop and manage robust MRV systems to track, evaluate, and report on the outcomes and effectiveness of sustainability programmes and interventions.
- Contribute to the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting requirements by providing accurate and actionable data from sustainability programmes and interventions
Innovation and Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal teams (procurement, legal, upstream and downstream operations) to foster sustainable practices.
- Collaborate with the Director of Sustainable Sourcing and Production to ensure supply chain initiatives are aligned with biodiversity, water stewardship, and community development goals.
- Identify and implement innovative approaches, technologies, and frameworks that enhance the impact and scalability of sustainability programmes.
Team and Budget Management:
- Oversee a multidisciplinary team and manage the global impact budget to achieve measurable outcomes across environmental and social performance metrics.
- Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders to build internal sustainability project management expertise and support culture change programmes to ensure sustainability is embedded within and adds value to the business.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of sustainability professionals, fostering a high-performance culture and providing opportunities for growth.
- Manage budgets and resources for sustainability programmes, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with strategic objectives.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, social sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in sustainability roles, with demonstrated expertise in biodiversity conservation, water stewardship, community development, and MRV systems.
- Proven track record of programmatic delivery and impact, preferably within agribusiness or a related field.
- Strong understanding of global sustainability standards, including RSPO, HCV/HCS frameworks, SDGs, and human rights principles.
- Experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, governments, and private sector actors, on sustainability initiatives.
- Strategic thinking and leadership with a focus on delivering impactful outcomes.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills, with experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Analytical mindset with expertise in sustainability metrics, MRV systems, and reporting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated mastery of impact measuring tools such as SROI, ROSI, theory of change etc.
- Bahasa Indonesia and English at business-level proficiency; Mandarin or Spanish is an advantage.
