SUMMARY:[Capacity Building and Funding Opportunity] ASEAN Blue Innovation Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The ASEAN Blue Innovation Challenge is a unique initiative aimed at promoting the blue economy in ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste. \nThis challenge seeks to identify\, finance\, and support innovative solutions for the conservation and sustainable management of marine ecosystems\, coastal areas\, and freshwater resources. Beyond financial support\, it also connects innovators with potential stakeholders\, including investors and business entities. \nTopics Addressed\nClimate Issues Climate change poses significant challenges to critical sectors of the blue economy\, such as fisheries\, aquaculture\, and tourism. Traditional approaches alone are insufficient\, necessitating novel solutions. Innovators\, with their adaptability and inventive spirit\, are pivotal in developing transformative technologies to mitigate and adapt to climate impacts\, fostering a more sustainable future. \nMarine Plastic Pollution Oceans face a serious plastic pollution problem\, harming marine life and ecosystems and affecting the food chain. Traditional methods like beach clean-ups and recycling help\, but are not enough to tackle the millions of tons of plastic entering the oceans every year. Fresh ideas from innovators\, who think differently and challenge old methods\, are crucial. \nSustainable Fisheries The rising global demand for fish has driven the development of fishing technology\, but this has led to overexploitation and degradation of fishery resources. Innovators hold the key to developing technologies and solutions that ensure healthy fish stocks and thriving local communities for generations to come. \nSustainable Tourism Unsustainable tourism management in coastal\, freshwater\, and marine zones often harms delicate environments\, exploiting resources and contributing to pollution. Innovation is crucial for shifting towards sustainable practices\, including eco-friendly lodging\, low-impact transportation\, empowering local communities\, and promoting regenerative tourism models. \nBenefits\nFor 60 Selected Awardees \n\nCapacity building program\, including technical assistance and mentorship during the piloting period.\nUp to USD 40\,000 for a six-month pilot or proof of concept of the innovations.\n\nFor All Participants \n\nOutreach: Solutions submitted could be included in upcoming UNDP publications shared with national\, regional\, and global partners for public outreach\, upon consent.\n\nEligibility Criteria\n\nA minimum of three people representing a legal entity/organization.\nTeams must have male and female members to ensure gender balance.\nTeam members must be at least 18 years old and citizens of ASEAN Member States and/or Timor-Leste.\nSubmit registration and administrative requirements through the online form.\nHave at least one year in operation or established before April 2023.\nHave good financial standing\, proven by records of ongoing and completed projects in the last year and a reference from a previous client/partner.\n\nFor more information\, visit this link . \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
